Suspect in deadly University Park five-car crash faces new charges

According to University Park Police, the collision occurred when a fast-moving Chevy Silverado ran a red light.

Texas’s University ParkIn relation to a University Park crash that claimed the life of a 44-year-old woman and seriously injured an 8-year-old son, an Irving man is now facing fresh charges.

In relation to the collision, 32-year-old Alexis Ruiz is currently charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

According to University Park police, Ruiz struck another car on November 22 after running a red light in his Chevy Silverado at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Preston Road.

Three more cars that were stopped at a red signal were then struck by that car.

When a bystander attempted to restrain Ruiz, he broke free and fled the area.

About a block away, he was finally taken into custody.

At the scene, 44-year-old Ana Gonzalez Perez was declared dead.

In relation to charges of fleeing the scene, Ruiz was first placed under bond.

On November 28, he was taken into custody on the additional allegations. He is still being held at the Dallas County Jail.

The crash is still being looked into by University Park Police.

The 8-year-old’s condition was not updated by the police.
