In the Las Colina neighborhood of Irving, the station formally began construction of a brand-new, cutting-edge television station.
The new 60,000-square-foot, two-story building on Royal Lane will house podcast suites, a renovated newsroom, and a contemporary studio.
It won’t look like your average old-fashioned TV station, either. Fiber will be used for broadcasting. This implies fewer satellite dishes and no TV towers or antennae.
It follows months of discussions with construction managers, architects, and the city of Irving.
“These things do not just happen overnight,” Rick Stopfer, the mayor of Irving, made the statement. “We are immensely proud that KDFW has selected Irving as its new home.”
KDFW has been based in Downtown Dallas for the last 75 years.
However, the market has evolved since then.
The landscape has changed significantly since then, and it is now the fourth largest in the nation.
According to Jeff Gurley, senior vice president and general manager, FOX 4 will be able to better serve the Dallas-Fort Worth community with the new headquarters.
It is anticipated that construction will take roughly two years.

Station History
KDFW FOX 4’s history dates back to the “golden age” of radio, more than 80 years ago. The first time KRLD-AM radio went on the air was on October 30, 1926. The station’s joint owners, Edwin J. “K”iest and the “R”adio “L”aboratories of “D”allas,” came up with the acronym for the call letters KRLD.
The Dallas Times Herald newspaper purchased KRLD from the founders in 1927, a year later. The station became the first Texas affiliate of the new Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) radio network that same year.
At the start of the “television age,” in the 1940s, KRLD’s owners made the decision to launch their own television station. The Federal Communications Commission licensed KRLD-TV Channel 4 as the fourth television station in Texas.
Channel 4 went live on December 3, 1949. The first telecast ever? SMU vs. Notre Dame is a typical Texas football game. Soon after, we connected our sails to the CBS television network and added local entertainment and news programming.
