What We Know: In connection with the death of 71-year-old Roger Smith on New Year’s Day, 33-year-old Kenyan Buchanan is accused of capital murder.
An arrest warrant document states that Smith challenged Buchanan, who was allegedly stealing goods from Smith’s vehicle, as he was exiting a bingo facility on Crowley Road.
Smith was seen to have fallen to the ground by a witness, and the suspect then drove off in a white SUV.
Using local camera footage, police were able to obtain a description of the car.
Police in Fort Worth stopped a white Mazda that fit the description on January 3.

At the time, Buchanan was operating the car while carrying a passenger.
The traveler admitted to authorities that they were with Buchanan when the incident occurred.
The witness told police that after the incident, Buchanan chopped his hair and saw on the news that Smith had passed away.
According to an affidavit for an arrest warrant, Buchanan took Smith’s phone and wallet from the truck along with lawn equipment.
