Compass Academy Murder Suspect Faces Initial Hearing for New Firearm Charges

Two suspects involved in the Compass Academy parking lot homicide appeared in court on Tuesday. Gabriel Perkins attended a pre-trial conference in the morning, while Taylor Aughenbaugh had a preliminary hearing in the afternoon.

Aughenbaugh is accused of two felony counts of aggravated battery, with an additional charge of possessing a stolen weapon. During the hearing, three witnesses testified, alleging that the firearm used in the homicide had been stolen and was possibly in Aughenbaugh’s possession at the scene. However, Aughenbaugh’s lawyer, John Malek, disputed this claim.

Malek argued, “The evidence presented does not prove that the firearm was stolen, nor does it establish my client’s possession of it. The video footage, taken in low light conditions during the incident, makes it difficult to confirm who was holding the weapon.”
