DALLAS—A 23-year-old SMU graduate was died after being struck while making his way to a ridesharing vehicle, and Dallas police are looking into the incident.
Originally from Florida, Katie Kerl fell in love with Dallas and stayed after graduating from college.
Last Thursday, Katie’s family reported that their phones were ringing nonstop. At that point, they found out that Katie and her buddy had been murdered on a careless night out in Dallas.

Dallas police were summoned to the Rosewood Mansion Hotel along Gillespie Street and Turtle Creek Boulevard last Thursday just before ten o’clock at night.
Investigators claim that when Katie and her friend were making their way to their parked rideshare car, a car sped by and collided with the two young ladies.
A friend of Katie’s got hurt.
Abbey Kerl, Katie’s sister, claims that she was pinned beneath the car in the valet parking lot.
“I was talking on the phone with the cop, and he said they were getting into an Uber, and they both got hit,” Abbey recalled. “Katie was struck by a car and died instantly. Her friend was knocked out just now. It’s not as though she was doing improperly.

Abbey said that her best friend and role model was her older sister.
“She is the most outstanding human being I ve ever seen in my life,” she stated. “Very eye catching to say the least.”
While her family resides in Florida, Katie was starting her adult life in Dallas after graduating from SMU in 2023.

“All I want is for whoever did that to be held accountable. Abbey remarked, “I don’t care about anything else.” “I just want that person I want them to look at my face and know they left a 19-year-old without a sister.”
The Rosewood Mansion Hotel is across the street from David Pemberton’s residence. He claims that last Thursday night was chaotic when he came outside.
“It was really noisy. You could tell something horrible had happened because there was so much activity,” he stated. “The Ubers across the street make this area extremely risky. Five to eight cars are parked there, which turns the street into a one-way street. It’s frightening to even walk through here because of how quickly people drive.”
