Trump names Idaho businessman, founder of Clearwater Analytics as USDA under secretary

An Idaho businessman was named a top official in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, or USDA, by President-elect Donald Trump.

Michael Boren, the creator of Clearwater Analytics, was named by Trump on Thursday as the USDA’s under secretary for environment and natural resources.

In a statement, Trump claimed that Boren would try to revitalize Forest Management at a critical juncture.

Republicans U.S. Sen. Jim Risch and Gov. Brad Little of Idaho applauded Trump’s selection of Boren.

In a statement, Little referred to Boren as a visionary and successful leader.

According to Little, this appointment is beneficial for all Western states, particularly Idaho. Having grown up in the Sawtooth Valley of Idaho, Mike is familiar with rural America. He will collaborate closely with President Trump to radically change the way that fires and lands are managed in the West.

In a social media post on X, Risch stated Lastly, when it comes to forest management, an Idaho voice will be heard.

According to Trump’s statement, he has also been a board member of the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation and a volunteer firefighter for the Sawtooth Valley Rural Fire Department.

Regarding a private airport he owns close to Stanley in south central Idaho, Boren has been embroiled in a number of litigation. According to the Idaho Mountain Express, he appealed a local judge’s decision to dismiss his slander action against four opponents of his airstrip in 2023.

According to its website, Boise-based Clearwater Analytics employs over 1,900 people and has operations in eight different countries.
