In a heartbreaking accident Thursday night on Highway 44 near Star, a teenage driver lost their life after a head-on collision. According to Idaho State Police, the crash occurred around 8:40 p.m.
The accident happened when a 30-year-old man from Middleton was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on the highway. In an attempt to overtake a semi-truck, the Silverado crossed into the eastbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2011 Ford Focus driven by a teenager. The Ford Focus had two teenage passengers at the time of the crash.
Tragically, the teenager driving the Ford Focus was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of their injuries. The two passengers in the Ford Focus, along with the Silverado driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, were transported to the hospital. The conditions of the hospitalized individuals are not currently known.

The collision closed both lanes of Highway 44 for more than four hours as emergency crews worked to manage the scene and assist those involved. Idaho State Police are actively investigating the crash to determine the exact circumstances leading to this devastating accident.
