DALLAS—A 34-year-old man was killed in a gunshot in May, and Dallas police are still looking into the incident.

On May 19, Jamal Cooksey was shot while standing with a buddy in a parking lot in the 2000 block of West Northwest Highway at approximately 2:45 a.m., according to Det. Ronald Kramer.

Kramer stated, “He had come with some friends,” “They met up here after leaving a club down the street. He was shot once from a distance when he and a friend were standing in this parking lot.

According to Kramer, Cooksey was shot at a club that was open after hours. According to him, surveillance footage demonstrates that on the night Cooksey was shot, the parking lot was packed with vehicles and pedestrians heading to the club.

The shooting and what Dallas police believe to be the suspect’s car are captured on film.

Investigators think the car is a black, four-door Kia Optima from the 2016–2020 model year.

According to Dallas police, the person or people inside the car in the picture are to blame for 34-year-old Jamal Cooksey’s shooting death.

Investigators are now requesting that anyone who witnessed the incident submit any images or recordings they may have.

“We’re hoping that anyone here who was taking cell phone pictures of them and their friends, taking video just of the parking lot, you know, anything they were posting on social media,” Kramer stated. “Anything at all that may show cars, people, anybody that was here at the time of the offense.”
