DALLAS—On Christmas night, a 26-year-old man was shot and died in West Dallas’ Trinity Groves area.
Investigators are unsure if he was the intended target or was struck by a random bullet.
Nobody made an effort to assist the victim. People were too preoccupied with using their phones to record videos.
Trinity Groves Shooting
We know:
The shooting took place in Trinity Groves at the 3600 block of Gulden Lane.
“Mr. (Elliot) Jimenez and his companion arrived in the park on Christmas night at approximately ten to eleven o’clock. “They parked, and it was open,” Dallas Police Det. Cayce Shelton clarified. Many folks were lingering. Before a few gunshots were heard, the night was peaceful and full of people mingling.
Jimenez and his friend then made the decision to depart, according to the detective.
“So they go. Shelton added, “As they are pulling out, Mr. Jimenez passes by and notices a woman on the passenger side of the car. “And he stops, rolls the windows down, and he’s speaking in Spanish to her.”
After something struck his car and he got out, Jimenez stopped driving away.
“He stopped to talk to the female, and then his friend here s a gunshot or two,” stated Shelton. “Mr. Jimenez never went back to the car. When the friend returned, he discovered Mr. Jimenez lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.
They weren’t the only ones at Trinity Groves that evening, according to the detective.
“Matter of fact, Mr. Jimenez’s friend says when he found Mr. Jimenez, there were several people recording on their phone; not helping him but recording.”
A white van that slowly rolls out of the parking lot and a dark-colored car that drives with its lights off after the shooting are of interest to detectives. They are merely vehicles of fascination for the time being.
What is unknown to us:
It is unclear to investigators whether Jimenez was the victim of a random act of violence or the planned target.
“I don’t know whether it was random, whether it was an intentional murder, or if there was an altercation that occurred between Mr. Jimenez and our unknown suspect,” stated Shelton.
The police don’t have a description of the culprit. The number of people involved in the shooting is unknown.
Additionally, police are unsure of the identity of the people in the white van and dark car, as well as whether or not they were engaged in the shooting.
What they’re saying:
“Based on my experience, plenty of people know what happened,” stated Shelton.
“How much does the fact that I’m lying here shot concern you? People are recording, but they’re not assisting me. questioned Shuan Rabb, a reporter at FOX 4.
“It used to shock me, but I ve been doing this a while,” stated Shelton. “It saddens me more than it shocks me now.”
