An allergic response to pollen from juniper or mountain cedar trees is known as a cedar allergy.
According to Dr. Ronald Cox, the juniper’s December–January bloom makes Texas the only state with the allergy.
According to him, the allergies usually start to increase by the end of December. However, they began in early December this year.
“What s unique about cedar fever is it actually feels like you do have a fever and wipes people out,” explained Dr. Cox. “This one actually makes you feel bad.”
The end of December or the first few weeks of January are predicted to be the peak times for this year’s cedar fever season.
Cedar Allergy Symptoms
The Texas A&M Forest Service states that cedar fever can occasionally produce symptoms including fever, aches and pains, a sore throat, runny nose, exhaustion, or loss of smell that are comparable to those of the flu or COVID-19.
However, in contrast to the flu or COVID-19, it also produces sneezing, watery eyes, blocked nasal passages, and an itchy feeling throughout the body. Cedar fever is characterized by clear mucous and a fever that is usually less than 101.5.

Cedar Fever Treatment
Texans can take several steps to lessen the symptoms of cedar fever. According to Dr. Cox, it frequently depends on how they appear.
“A lot of people will have itchy, runny, sneeze, and if that’s your main complaint, the over-the-counter antihistamines work well for that,” he stated.
Dr. Cox advised using over-the-counter eye drops if your primary issue is watery or itchy eyes.
He also suggests closing your doors and windows on days with high pollen counts to prevent allergy symptoms.
