DALLAS—According to Dallas police, a 13-year-old opened fire on a security guard at a CVS Pharmacy in Downtown Dallas on Friday night, killing him.
Tuesday night, the temporary police chief fielded questions during a community meeting during which the update was given.

Michael Igo, the interim police chief for Dallas, stated, “I understand everyone’s concerns in this room; I do,” “And we are doing everything we can within our strategies to employ to keep everybody safe.”

New Details Revealed
Following a fatal shooting at a CVS where a security guard was slain, the interim Dallas police chief will hold a community gathering in Downtown Dallas. According to the security guard’s wife, he was killed while performing his duties as a provider.
According to authorities, a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old began shoplifting at the store last Friday night after purchasing a prepaid telephone card.
The 13-year-old and security guard Anthony Egeonu got into a fight when the kid attempted to flee.
According to the police, the 13-year-old produced a gun, fired several rounds, and then the two fled in a white Kia. The following day, they were both taken into custody.
“We do believe at this time but can t confirm it, but that they may be involved in other offenses not from the Dallas area,” stated Igo.

The chief noted additional mounted patrols in the area and mentioned a task team established for the Central Patrol Division in November.
However, other attendees also brought up previous violent incidents in Downtown Dallas, such as the sporadic attacks on several individuals last year. Additionally, they wanted to know what was being done to assist the local homeless community.
“We cannot merely put them in jail or expel them from the city when we encounter them or others. Being unsheltered is not illegal, but we are aware of it,” Igo stated.
Concerns over police personnel and displeasure were also expressed to the chief.
There are presently 3100 officers in the agency, but the municipal charter’s new requirements need a substantially larger police force.
“Staffing as a whole with the department is a concern, but I will never use that as an excuse,” Igo added. “If I have to adjust resources, I ll adjust resources which I ve done, and we can do better.”
The gathering on Tuesday was attended by Egeonu’s relatives.
Kimberly Tolbert, the recently hired Dallas City Manager, was also present and sent her sympathies to Egeonu’s family.
The family expressed their happiness at the news that the two minors will be charged with capital murder.
