The search for Clara Robinson
What We Know: Since a collision early on December 24, 8-year-old Clara Robinson has been missing.
The SUV belonging to the Robinson family was swept to a nearby creek after colliding with a flooded drainage ditch.
Out of the six members of the family, four were saved.
According to reports, Clara’s father, Will Robinson, passed away while attempting to save his two daughters.
The high school girls basketball coach who died in Sherman, Texas while attempting to save his kids is remembered by his current and previous players as being upbeat and cheerful. He would have done anything, so the saying goes, to save his daughters.
Two and a half miles downstream from the original accident site, Robinson’s body was discovered.
First responders were able to rescue his 5-year-old daughter, but the 8-year-old is not showing any symptoms.
Crews are looking for the missing girl throughout a 10- to 12-mile radius.
What’s Next: Tomorrow morning, the search is anticipated to resume.
Safety measures added to U.S. 75
What’s Next: According to TxDOT, guardrails are being installed along the section of U.S. 75 where the collision happened as of Monday.
According to Sherman police, multiple automobiles have been reported to have driven into the drainage ditch along U.S. 75 throughout the years.
Approximately 12,000 people have signed an online petition demanding safety barriers along the ditch.
Assistant Police Chief Nic Emmons of Sherman stated, “I think it’s something that we all agree now needs to be addressed, and so I’m definitely glad that it’s getting addressed.”
TxDOT informs FOX 4 that finishing the entire stretch will take at least a few days. The department is advising drivers to exercise caution in the interim.
Weather conditions hamper search
The weather on Monday made it easier for crew members to search.
Over the past week, rain has caused trash, altered creek levels, and more.
“That definitely is a challenge and it s caused us to have to go over some areas a second or third time,” Emmons added.
