Search efforts are intensifying along Galveston Bay as the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department combine forces to locate two individuals missing since a harrowing boat crash on Friday night. The incident, which occurred just before Hurricane Beryl’s landfall, has prompted an urgent and extensive search operation amid worsening weather conditions.
According to an update from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the boat crash happened around 9:30 p.m. when the vessel struck the jetties under treacherous conditions. Five people were aboard the boat at the time of the accident.
The crash’s impact threw two individuals into the water, while the remaining three were quickly rescued and transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch Hospital for treatment. The two missing individuals have not been seen since, spurring a relentless search effort.
The U.S. Coast Guard, part of the rescue operation, has been working tirelessly alongside local agencies. Their efforts are made more challenging by the impending threat of Tropical Storm Beryl. Judge Henry’s declaration underscores the gravity of the situation. Adding to the urgency, Texas Equusearch and other search teams found a body near the crash site on Saturday. However, the Coast Guard has yet to confirm whether the body is one of the two individuals thrown into the water during the crash.
