Donald Trump’s teenage son, Barron, seems to have played a significant role in convincing the former president to participate in an interview with right-wing online streamer Adin Ross. In a roughly hour-long interview streamed on Monday, Trump told the 23-year-old Ross that his son is “a big fan” and considered landing an interview with Ross a major achievement.
“My son Barron says ‘hello’. He’s a great young guy, but he’s a big fan of yours,” Trump said at the beginning of the live-streamed interview. Ross is notably popular among young men, a demographic that includes Barron, who is 18 years old. Ross initially gained fame by streaming himself playing video games online, but he has also given airtime to controversial figures, such as white supremacist Nick Fuentes.
“Barron says, ‘Dad, he’s really big,’ he said, ‘he’s also a friend of mine,’” Trump shared with Ross, acknowledging the streamer’s substantial audience. Ross has amassed over 4 million followers on YouTube, 7.2 million on Instagram, and 1.3 million on Kick.
“My kids say, ‘Dad, you have no idea how big this interview is.’ I said, ‘Don’t tell me that,’” Trump recounted during the interview. The former president indicated that his sons were the ones who brought Ross to his attention. He praised Ross’s success as “outstanding” and even suggested that Ross might one day consider running for president, an idea Ross politely declined. Instead, Ross suggested that Barron might enter the political arena in the future.
Much of the interview involved Ross flattering the former president and providing a platform for Trump to reiterate familiar rants and criticize Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris. At one point, Ross directly urged his 1.36 million followers on Kick to vote for Trump. He also gifted Trump a Tesla Cybertruck and a gold Rolex, though it remains unclear if Trump can accept these gifts according to Federal Election Commission guidelines.
Trump was quick to boast about the interview’s online reception. Posting on Tuesday on Truth Social, the former president wrote: “Wow!!! Adin Ross’s Interview yesterday EXPLODED but in a very positive way! Platform set a record, by far, with over 100 MILLION Views/Hits. Congratulations to Adin and his wonderful mother, father, and family, whom I had the pleasure of meeting. Thank you also to Barron Trump for the introduction to your friend, Adin. Young people are the future of America. THOSE NUMBERS ARE REALLY BIG ‘STUFF!’”
The unusual interview appears to be part of Trump’s campaign strategy to appeal to young men, a voting group that is increasingly leaning to the right. In June, Trump also sat down with social media influencer and professional wrestler Logan Paul to discuss his campaign. Paul’s podcast is similarly popular among young men, and now Trump has turned his attention to Ross.
Before being banned by Twitch in 2023, Ross had over 7.2 million followers on the platform. Twitch permanently banned him after multiple suspensions for hateful conduct. Ross was accused of giving a masked individual a platform to express Nazi-like views.
Ross also found himself embroiled in a controversy involving right-wing media personality Andrew Tate, who faces charges of human trafficking and rape. Last year, a law firm accused Ross of prompting authorities to investigate Tate on suspicion that he was planning to flee Romania before his trial, according to NBC News.
