She now makes it her goal to give back to the community on Thanksgiving.

Seven families in the DFW region have received Thanksgiving meals from Andrea Martinez-Medellin. The generosity she experienced when her family was in need served as the inspiration for the concept. She has bought dinners for about 25 households in the last four years.

Kimberly Perez and her family in Haltom City had dinner from Martinez-Medellin on Tuesday.

“I am very thankful,” Perez remarked. “Very, very, thankful.”

Martinez-Medellin stated, “I love to help a lot of families just because I’ve been there myself,”

In 2020, Sarai, Martinez-Medellin’s 4-year-old daughter, was struck by a TV and dresser. Due to a severe brain injury, she was hospitalized and briefly placed on life support.

Martinez-Medellin turned to the community for support after her savings ran out.

“I was surprised by the community’s reaction. They assisted me with everything right up until the day she returned home,” she remarked.

At nine years old, Sarai is defying expectations by relearning how to walk, talk, and act like a child.

“I ve always felt that I will forever be in debt of the community, and I will forever give back because my daughter s life is worth much more than what I have to offer them,” Martinez-Medellin stated. “It was more of a Thanksgiving idea. It’s a moment to give and to express gratitude.

In the upcoming years, Martinez-Medellin hopes to assist a lot more families.
