FORT WORTH—Police have made public bodycam and 911 call records from a shooting in which an officer was involved on January 15.
Officers responded to complaints of an armed man threatening residents at an apartment complex on January 15, and Fort Worth police released bodycam footage and 911 calls from the event.
The backstory
Just before noon, a Fort Worth police officer answered many 911 calls from an apartment building in the 8500 block of John T. White Road.
Dispatchers were informed by the first caller that he was being targeted for murder. He begged for cops to visit his residence and repeatedly expressed fear for his life.
Fort Worth police officers involved in 3 shootings in 1 week
Video of an officer-involved shooting that occurred last week was made public by Fort Worth police. There have been three police shootings in the city this year, and this is only one of them.
The second caller claimed seeing an armed man pointing a rifle at a resident while he was outside the leasing office of the complex.
Deron Morris, 42, was named as the suspect.
Bodycam footage
An officer can be seen on bodycam footage seeing Morris in the front parking lot next to the leasing office. Morris drew a pistol but put it back in his pocket right away.
The policewoman aimed her firearm at Morris and repeatedly ordered him to “get on the ground.” The response from Morris was, “No, you get on the ground.”
Throughout the video, the officer repeatedly uttered the words, “Don’t make me shoot you.”
Then, outside the apartment complex, Morris passed the officer and headed toward onlookers seated in a car. He paused, put his hand in his waistline, where the gun was, and faced the officer once more.

Video shows suspect with knife charging at Fort Worth police officers
Last week, Fort Worth police released footage of a fatal police shooting in which a man had struck his mother and threatened to use a knife to kill her. As the officers attempted to defend her, he charged at them with two knives, shown on body camera footage.
Morris was shot many times by the cop, but he was not struck.
As more police came on the scene, Morris ran away. He eventually trapped himself inside his apartment after dropping his pistol while running. Morris was arrested following a 40-minute standoff. Two firearms were found at the site by the police.
There were no reported injuries.
We know:
Morris is still being held on a $100,000 bail at the Tarrant County Jail.
He faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer and five charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
