A 65-year-old man has been arrested for abandoning his dog on the Southern State Parkway in Long Island, according to New York State Police.  Glenroy Bramble is accused of tying a four-year-old mastiff named Roxi to a light pole and leaving her there without any supervision.

Glenroy Bramble was identified as the person who abandoned Roxi the Mastiff on July 1, along with a dog bowl filled with food and a note next to it that read:

  • “This Is ‘Roxi,’ a Trained
  • American Bull Mastiff
  • She Is Four Years Old
  • She Has Been Feed [sic] And
  • Given a Flea Bath, She May
  • Still, Have Issues [sic] with Them
  • See that She Gets Good Care”

State troopers located Roxi near exit 21 of the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead. Thankfully, she was unharmed and was taken to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh for care and shelter.

Bramble has been charged with animal abandonment, which is a misdemeanor. He is also facing a violation for not providing adequate shelter for a dog. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 19 at the Nassau County District Court.

Abandoning a pet is a serious offense, as it can lead to distress and potential harm to the animal. Roxi’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership. Pet owners must ensure that their pets are cared for properly and are not left in dangerous situations.

Local authorities emphasize the need for compassion towards animals and encourage anyone who can no longer care for their pets to seek help rather than abandon them.

Many shelters and rescue organizations are available to assist pet owners in finding suitable solutions for their pets, such as rehoming or temporary care.

The situation highlights the importance of community awareness and involvement in protecting animals. When individuals see pets in distress, they should report it to the local authorities or animal control. Community vigilance can prevent tragic situations like Roxi’s from happening in the future.

This case also highlights the growing concern about animal abandonment, especially during challenging economic times when some families may struggle to afford pet care. Education and outreach programs are essential to inform pet owners about their responsibilities and the resources available to them.

As for Glenroy Bramble, he faces legal consequences for his actions. The charges serve as a warning to others who might consider abandoning their pets. Local animal rights groups are advocating for stricter laws and penalties for pet abandonment, believing that stronger consequences can deter such behavior.

This incident affects Roxi and raises awareness about the broader issue of animal welfare. It reminds us that pets are not just animals; they are family members who deserve love and care. The community’s response to cases like Roxi’s can lead to a better future for all pets in need of homes and protection.
