Man arrested at airport for Cockrell Hill fatal hit-and-run

Texas’s Cockrell HillThe guy suspected of being responsible for the hit-and-run death of a 56-year-old lady in Cockrell Hill earlier this month was taken into custody by police.

After coming home to North Texas and arriving at Dallas Love Field Airport on Saturday, Miguel Briseno Mendez was placed under arrest.

After that, the 24-year-old was charged with a collision involving death and put into the Dallas County jail.

Cockrell Hill Fatal Hit-and-Run

We know:

On January 2, just before 7 p.m., a fatal collision occurred close to the intersection of Division Street and S. Cockrell Hill Road.

Nancy Dowd, 56, was struck and murdered while crossing the street, according to the police.

The driver of a black pickup truck claimed police he didn’t see Dowd and struck her as he was turning right, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

At the crossing, the motorist pulled over to see how Dowd, who was still alive but hurt, was doing.

He told police that when he climbed back into his truck to dial 911, a dark automobile sped by and struck Dowd once again, pulling her and running over her head. The vehicle didn’t stop.

Later, the hospital declared Dowd dead.

The suspect has not yet been named by Plano police. According to a police spokesperson who talked to FOX 4, this is because an arrest warrant has not yet been issued.

The Investigation

We know:

After the collision, investigators discovered pieces of a black Lexus IS 250, model number 2007–2010, in the street close to Dowd’s body.

To locate a car that fit that description and drove by the scene of the collision, they used license plate cameras.

When the investigators arrived at an address linked to the registered owner of the vehicle, they were able to identify the driver as Briseno Mendez.

He said the accident occurred as he and his wife were going home, and he acknowledged taking medication that day. He said he thought he hit a pothole after going around the truck.

“Yes, I am aware of what you are discussing. I believed I had struck a pothole. According to the affidavit, he told officers who called him, “You know how Cockrell Hill has bumpy roads.”

He told detectives where they could find the automobile while on a work trip in Tennessee, and he agreed to meet with them when he got back home.

According to the affidavit, detectives discovered front-end damage on the vehicle that matched the components discovered at the scene of the crime. Additionally, human hairs discovered on a tire were gathered as proof.
