Local Dispensaries Embrace New OMMA Rules: Secret Shoppers to Ensure Compliance!

Local medical marijuana dispensaries in Oklahoma are reacting to the new rules implemented by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA). FOX23 interviewed several dispensaries to gather their thoughts on these changes.

OMMA has introduced secret shoppers to ensure that dispensaries follow the law, especially in verifying that customers have valid medical marijuana cards. While rules can often be viewed negatively, all the dispensaries FOX23 spoke to support the new secret shoppers and believed it would benefit their business.

Support for Secret Shoppers

Ryan Omera, the owner of Twisted Roots Dispensary near 51st and Yale, expressed his support for the secret shoppers. “We’re not changing anything because we’re not breaking any rules. I think it’s good that there’s secret shopping. To keep everyone honest,” Omera said.

Last week, OMMA implemented these new rules, including the use of secret shoppers. These shoppers visit different dispensaries to ensure that marijuana is not being sold to individuals without proper medical cards.

Positive Outlook from Dispensary Managers

Mahi Kawsar, manager at Dank Cannabis Dispensary near 21st and Sheridan, shared a similar positive outlook. “I do not worry about it at all,” Kawsar said. He believes that the secret shoppers will reassure customers about the safety and legitimacy of his products.

“There are a lot of things coming, like illegal growers. They’re shutting down so many; it’s like a black market. So it will stop the black market, which is good for us and our business, too,” Kawsar added.

Omera also highlighted the importance of such measures in the medical marijuana industry. “I don’t see it being a burden on our end. I mean, it’s just a secret shopper. They do it to bars, too, and they do it to other places.

It’s just in place to keep everyone honest and keep everything legit. We make sure everyone has a medical card. Then, on our dispensary side, we make sure our product isn’t a black market product,” he explained.

New Rules for Growers

In addition to the secret shopper initiative, OMMA has also introduced a rule prohibiting growers from hiring undocumented immigrants. This move is part of a broader effort to regulate the industry and ensure compliance with state laws.

The dispensaries FOX23 spoke to believe that these new rules will help create a more trustworthy and legitimate medical marijuana market in Oklahoma. By cracking down on illegal activities and ensuring that all products are safe and properly sourced, both dispensaries and customers stand to benefit.

Impact on the Industry

The introduction of secret shoppers and stricter regulations for growers signifies a significant step towards a more regulated and transparent medical marijuana industry in Oklahoma. Dispensaries are optimistic that these changes will not only improve business operations but also enhance customer trust.

As OMMA continues to implement these new rules, dispensaries remain committed to complying with regulations and maintaining high standards for their products and services. The use of secret shoppers and the prohibition on hiring undocumented immigrants are seen as positive steps towards achieving these goals.
