In an attempt to rescue their schools, parents flocked to the meeting on Monday night before the vote.

Owen Elementary, Creekside Elementary, Garden Ridge Elementary, Highland Village Elementary, and Polser STEM Academy are among the schools that will close.

With the exception of one board member voting against the closure of Highland Village Elementary, every vote was unanimous.

A vote to update school enrollment boundaries was also taken by the board.

In several school districts in North Texas, the situation has remained the same. Additionally, parents, students, instructors, and support staff at the impacted schools are never happy to hear this news.

The district’s enrollment is dropping, and it has a $4.5 million financial deficit.

Parents and a few students from two of the targeted schools begged the trustees to keep them open during a school board meeting last month.

Board members thanked the audience for their remarks and fervent efforts in this battle before the vote. They admitted that it was a difficult choice.

As the new legislative session is scheduled to start in January, a number of board members reassured the audience that the battle is still ongoing in Austin.
