KELLER, TexasAt KellerISD’s upcoming school board meeting, parents are prepared to express their concerns as the board prepares to part ways with the superintendent.
The possible division of the district continues to aggravate many parents. Additionally, a potential leadership transition during what is supposedly the worst time has been introduced.
Thursday night is the date of another controversial Keller ISD school board meeting.
The backstory
It comes two weeks after over a hundred people criticized the school board for their lack of transparency and chastised them for plans to possibly separate the district.
Parents contended that the less fortunate residents of the existing district would have to cope with the impending debt and would no longer have access to Keller resources.
Most trustees still maintain that the separation was caused by a lack of finance.
In a surprising development, Superintendent Dr. Tracy Johnson might be leaving.
“Consider and take possible action on superintendent voluntary separation agreement” and “Name an interim superintendent” are two of Thursday’s agenda topics.

Community members followed the agenda and took turns speaking at the podium for a few hours. But the assembly swiftly devolved into an unruly, impolitic yelling match. Even her resignation was tendered by the superintendent.
When Dr. Johnson surprised the audience at the Jan. 16 meeting by stating that she, too, opposed the separation, she immediately threatened to resign.
“I am aware that I will most likely face consequences for my speech. That’s fine with me,” she answered. “I’m ready. I’m ready. I have my retirement letter of resignation. That is what I have here.

What they’re saying:
Trustees Joni Smith and Chelsea Kelly, who oppose the district split, wrote lengthy social media posts earlier this week claiming they were once again taken by surprise.
“Given that we are already appointing an interim superintendent tomorrow, I believed it had occurred rather earlier. “We are not aware of everything that has been going on,” parent Amber Jacobs said. It’s clear that we’re worried. Who will they put there? This name and that name are mentioned. Nobody is positive.
At the meeting on January 16, parent Matthew Mucker gave a speech.
“Perhaps they aren’t acting appropriately. He suggested that they might not be acting in the students’ best interests. “Maybe they are other reasons for the board actions that the public should be aware of.”
Next steps:
Thursday at 5 p.m. is the time of that public meeting.
Everyone who participated in public discussion at the meeting earlier this month opposed the separation and the board’s choice. It’s uncertain if board supporters will turn up and talk once more.
