In one of her initial videos, Harris and Bass teamed up for a playful jab at her potential future opponent, Donald Trump. The video shows Bass holding the camera and asking Harris, “Hey Kamala, what are we going to say to Donald Trump in November?” Harris responds with a cheeky “Bye, bye, bye,” referencing NSYNC’s 2000 hit song. The first video, an eight-second clip, introduces Harris as she playfully engages with the cameraperson. “Madam Vice President, are you on TikTok?” they ask. Harris responds, “Well, I heard recently that I was on the For You Page, so I thought I would get on here myself.”

Harris’s TikTok journey comes amid a flood of memes and viral content surrounding her previous speeches and interviews. The platform has been buzzing with coconut tree memes and her famous quote, “What can be, unburdened by what has been,” making the timing of her TikTok debut all the more strategic.

Another notable TikTok from her account features a previously released clip of Harris taking a phone call with former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. Deputy campaign manager Rob Flaherty emphasized the importance of engaging with voters on platforms where they are active. “Our job as a campaign is to break through the noise and make sure we’re talking to voters wherever they are — TikTok is one of those landscapes, and we’re leaving no stone unturned,” Flaherty told People.

This approach is part of a broader effort to energize and mobilize young voters. Over the weekend, Harris sent a pre-recorded message to the Voters of Tomorrow Summit. In her message, she highlighted the crucial role of young voters in shaping the country’s future. “Your generation is leading on the most important issues of our time,” Harris stated. She also reminded young voters of their pivotal role in the 2020 election, expressing confidence that they would help secure another victory this November.

Harris reflected on her previous nationwide college tour, during which she convened over 15,000 young leaders to discuss pressing issues. “At every stop, it was so clear to me that your generation is leading on the most important issues of our time,” she said. Harris posed a critical question to her audience: “What kind of country do we want to live in? A country of freedom, compassion, and the rule of law? Or a country of chaos, fear, and hate?”

Harris emphasized that everyone has the power to shape the country’s future. “In this election, we are counting on you to energize, organize, mobilize, and fight for our most fundamental freedoms. And we know, when we fight, we win,” she declared.

A recent Axios/Generation Lab poll highlights the impact of Harris’s efforts. The poll showed that in a hypothetical contest between Harris and Trump, 18 to 24-year-olds leaned heavily towards Harris, with 60 percent supporting her compared to 40 percent for Trump. This data underscores the importance of Harris’s outreach to young voters and her strategic use of platforms like TikTok to connect with them.
