DALLAS—On Thursday in North Texas, a 48-year-old man who had been searching for his biological father for decades finally met him.
To meet Chris Dube for the first time, Reggie Carrar, who resides in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and two daughters, flew into DFW Airport.
The Backstory: Since he was ten years old, Carrar has been looking for his father.
His mother never revealed to Dube that he was Carrar’s father when she became pregnant at the age of 17.
“I was probably 17 or 18.” I played guitar in a rock and roll band. Dube remarked, “And, you know, those times were those times.”
Carrar made the decision to use Ancestry.com to take a DNA test a few months ago.
Because she was interested in her own heritage, his 14-year-old niece Riley had undergone the same DNA test a few years prior, which is how he found her.
After contacting the girl’s mother, Carrar discovered that she was actually his half-sister.
“My mother was overjoyed when she discovered it. “I have a new brother!” she called. Dube Riley said.
“I nearly gave up looking a few times because I thought this would never end.” Carrar remarked, “I’m glad I didn’t stop.”
What People Are Saying: According to Carrar and Dube, everything is still taking in.
“I’m sitting at home when I turn to face my wife and declare, ‘I have a dad!'” She will then turn to remark, “You have a father!” “Carver said.” “Knowing only half of oneself is difficult. And I’ve only ever known that. Therefore, knowing who I am today feels fantastic.
“It was somewhat startling at first. But it’s fantastic. Knowing that I had someone who had been searching for me for so long was thrilling,” Dube remarked.
During the Thanksgiving holiday, Carrar’s girls made their first FaceTime connection with their new grandfather.
“Hello, grandpa!” was the first thing she said upon seeing me. “All right, I have granddaughters,” Dube remarked.
What’s Next: The general contractor son and his father, a jet engine specialist, now want to make up for lost time.
“We both like fishing, music, still comparing notes on aches and pains,” laughed Dube. “He knew there was a fishing legend out there who had to be related to him.”
Although they are unable to alter the past, the two can create memories together in the future.
This time, Carrar is only in town for a couple of days. To give his girls the opportunity to see their grandfather, he is already organizing a second journey.
