Idaho State Police Gets New Leader: Governor Little Appoints Bill Gardiner as Colonel

Governor Brad Little has announced that Bill Gardiner will be the new colonel and director of the Idaho State Police (ISP). This appointment follows the upcoming retirement of Colonel Ked Wills, who has been a long-time leader of the ISP.

Governor Little expressed his confidence in Gardiner’s ability to lead the ISP, highlighting his integrity and experience. He emphasized that Gardiner, a native of Idaho, has a strong background in law enforcement and leadership, making him well-suited for this important role.

The Governor also noted that he looks forward to collaborating with Gardiner and the ISP team to tackle key issues such as the fight against fentanyl, efforts to curb human trafficking, support for border security, and maintaining Idaho’s reputation as one of the safest states in the country.

Bill Gardiner has been a member of the Idaho State Police for 25 years, serving in various capacities throughout his career. Since 2020, he has held the positions of lieutenant colonel, deputy director, and chief of staff. Gardiner, originally from Burley, Idaho, expressed his gratitude and honor in being appointed as the new Director of the ISP. He acknowledged the agency’s strong tradition of excellence and its commitment to serving the community with professionalism and integrity.
