Idaho Republican Party says it needs help paying its rent for Boise HQ

The state’s most powerful political party, the Idaho Republican Party, claims it needs assistance with rent payments.

Over the space of four days this week, Idaho Republican Party officials sent out two emails requesting that anyone who receives party communications contribute $10 per month to help cover the rent.

The Idaho Republican Party has moved to a renovated house on Jefferson Street in Boise, replacing its previous headquarters in the U.S. Bank Building in downtown Boise.

In emails received Tuesday and Friday, Idaho Republican Party First Vice Chair Mark Fuller said the new headquarters building, located on the outskirts of downtown Boise and featuring upper apartments, is more costly than the previous one.

Fuller urged everyone to provide $10 per month to the Idaho Republican Party, specifically to cover rent and other costs, in both emails.

It’s not much per person, but if enough of us agree to pay for ourselves, we can pay the building’s rent and assist with other recurring costs.

Dorothy Moon, the chairwoman of the Idaho Republican Party, was unavailable for comment on Friday.

Fuller claimed that parking was difficult and that the building’s owners allegedly instructed party officials to hide Republican campaign posters in the windows, making the previous Idaho Republican Party headquarters location unattractive. Fuller claimed that the new structure has better parking and is more handy for constituents. Republicans are likewise free to fly their campaign placards and flags as they please.

However, the Idaho Republican Party, which openly promotes budgeting and financial discipline, takes issue with the higher rent.

As you can see, the monthly rent for the new building is more. Fuller penned Friday and Tuesday. I told Chair Moon that we would be able to raise enough money from devoted Republicans to cover the higher price for better space when she came to me with this new location. I’m writing to ask for your assistance in keeping my word to Dorothy.

During the state convention last summer, Moon, a former state legislator, was chosen to a second term as the head of the Idaho Republican Party. Since the 2006 election, the Idaho Republican Party has controlled every statewide elected office in Idaho and holds a 90-15 supermajority in the Idaho Legislature.
