Faux Amazon Driver Busted: The Shocking Tale of Washington County's Stealing Packages

A man has been arrested for stealing packages in Washington County, posing as an Amazon driver. The incident comes months after a significant theft at the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals, where a valuable piece of gold was stolen.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Vincent Charles Roberts, was caught on surveillance video targeting a display case full of gold at the museum in late December. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday, August 5, that Roberts is now facing multiple charges related to the theft.

Investigators followed leads across different counties and even into Washington state. They eventually found suspected stolen items at a precious metals buyer around Salem, which helped them zero in on Roberts. On May 28, a Washington County grand jury indicted Roberts on several charges. These charges include second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree aggravated theft, and first-degree theft.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office took Roberts into custody on Thursday, June 27. In addition to the charges related to the gold theft, Roberts is also facing charges in Lane County. These additional charges stem from an incident on May 3, when he allegedly stole a boat and fled from police.

Authorities have been diligent in their investigation, piecing together clues and tracking down leads that eventually led to Roberts’ arrest. The case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces when dealing with cross-county and cross-state crimes. The collaboration between different sheriff’s offices and the meticulous work of investigators played a crucial role in bringing Roberts to justice.

Roberts’ legal troubles are far from over. He is facing multiple charges in different counties, and the judicial process will determine the consequences of his actions. This case serves as a reminder of the far-reaching effects of theft and the importance of vigilance and cooperation in preventing and solving such crimes.
