Escaped Alabama inmate captured while stopping at Buc-ee’s in Melissa

Melissa, TexasOn Sunday afternoon, the Buc-ee’s in Melissa apprehended an escaped convict from Alabama.

We know:

At approximately 4:45 p.m. on January 26, a Flock camera detected a car close to the Buc-ee’s in Anna, alerting Melissa police to the vehicle connected to the inmate’s escape.

The prisoner was found in the parking lot and was identified as Pierson McKinnley Anthony, 25. Officers performed a high-risk felony traffic stop after the car got out and started traveling north on the frontage road.

Anthony gave himself up without any problems.

Later, officers found that the car’s driver had a felony warrant out for helping Anthony escape. After being arrested, Anthony and the driver are currently being held at the Collin County Jail until their extradition to Alabama.

A third-degree criminal accusation has been brought against Anthony.

The backstory

More than 600 miles away from Melissa, in Marion County, Alabama, Anthony eluded capture. Without traffic, it takes roughly nine and a half hours to drive from Marion County to the Buc-ee’s location.

Melissa Police Chief Erik Stokes said in a statement, “This is an example of how effective Flock technology can be in the apprehension of wanted fugitives from across the country.”
