Eli Crane's Investigation Reveals Potential Security Failures During Trump Rally Shooting

Rep. Eli Crane, a Republican Congressman from Arizona and former Navy SEAL sniper, recently shared a video from the roof where Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. In his video, Crane scrutinizes the security measures and suggests that there were significant lapses that allowed the shooter to bypass the Secret Service.

Crane’s video captures the second-floor window from which Secret Service agents were likely observing the area. He points out that this window overlooks the roof from which Crooks fired, suggesting that the roof wasn’t as steep or challenging to access as Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle had claimed. Crane’s observations raise questions about how Crooks managed to get past the security.

In the video, Crane states, “I’m on the roof of the building in Butler, PA, where shots were fired in an attempt to assassinate President Trump. As a former Navy SEAL sniper, it was clear to me that many security measures were dropped, making Pres. Trump is extremely vulnerable. Many questions remain.”

Cheatle had previously explained that a “sloped roof” was the reason for not positioning a sniper team on the building. She argued that the roof’s incline made it unsafe for deployment. This explanation has been met with skepticism, especially after Crooks, who Secret Service snipers killed, managed to cause significant harm, including wounding Trump and killing one person at the rally.

Cheatle told ABC News, “That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof.”

Donald Trump Jr. also weighed in, seemingly mocking Cheatle’s comments. He shared Crane’s video with the caption, “Be careful @RepEliCrane, I’ve heard a very slightly sloped roof can be incredibly dangerous.
