DALLAS—On Sunday, traffic at DFW Airport was a nightmare.
Hours were spent waiting for passengers and their companions to reach the terminals. Some travelers chose to walk from the toll station to their gates.
With over three million passengers using airports across the country, TSA said that December 1st was the busiest day ever for security checks.
According to DFW Airport, the large number of passengers returning home following the Thanksgiving holiday was the cause of the traffic problem.
According to Bernie Hanlon, when his daughter arrived to bring them up on Sunday night, she was caught in traffic for two hours.
On Monday, DFW Airport issued a statement regarding the traffic.
“To help with traffic flow, we sent additional police officers to the terminals. By about nine o’clock at night, the airport roads were clean. On Sunday, DFW had about 260,000 passengers, with evening traffic being the busiest period, according to the airport.
The delays caused some customers to miss their aircraft.
Passengers’ online concerns claimed that construction and the closure of some lanes were contributing factors.
DFW Airport was questioned by FOX 4 over the complaints.
“To lessen the impact on traffic, we have a construction moratorium in place during days when traffic is at its worst. However, there is now a lane closure on one section of the southbound International Parkway. The airport reacted that last night’s congestion was caused by a high volume in a short amount of time.
Despite the problems on Sunday evening, there were no problems for passengers on Monday morning.
