The Democratic mayor of Newark, New Jersey, and others are seeking answers over the raid on a business in the city.
“The Fourth Amendment is up for debate. “We cannot argue over the 14th Amendment,” Ras Baraka, the mayor of Newark, stated. “Everybody has a right to due process that we should be secure in our person, in our papers and our property from undue search and seizure.”
The mayor reported that ICE authorities recently detained a military veteran and U.S. citizens.
According to Baraka, the captives were photographed and fingerprinted there.
“They entered the establishment’s rear. The mayor stated, “We think that they detained three people who they claim were undocumented.” However, they also imprisoned those who were actually citizens of this nation. One individual was questioned despite presenting identification as a military veteran.

ICE replied that its officers “may encounter U.S. citizens while conducting fieldwork and may request identification to establish an individual’s identity, as was the case during a targeted enforcement operation at a worksite in Newark, New Jersey.”
The Trump administration claims that criminals are the objective of these operations. Those detained in other states have been accused of sexual assault and murder.

Dawn Buckingham, the land commissioner for Texas, declared she would allow the incoming Trump administration to use additional state-owned land for deportation operations.
“Students are scared to attend class. This week alone, we have noticed a significant decline in attendance,” teacher Ryan McKelvy Gonzales said. “I’ve noticed anxiety and worry on my kids’ expressions every day this week when I’ve entered my classroom. Several of whom have relatives who live in continual fear of deportation.
Additionally, ArlingtonISD reported that several of its employees and students have voiced worries regarding immigration raids.
The district stressed that student information is legally protected and that it does not gather immigration status.
Arlington ISD stated that in the coming days and weeks, it will disseminate information about resources to help anyone who might be impacted.
“The district will continue to monitor developments in federal policy and assess how they may impact the district,” stated a spokesperson. “We are also communicating with local and state officials to advocate for the needs of our community to ensure that every child has access to a safe, stable and supportive learning environment.”
