Dallas weather: How much will it snow on Thursday?

Evan Andrews, a meteorologist for FOX 4, discusses the snowfall that is expected in North Texas on Thursday, along with the possible accumulation amounts.

DallasAs we wait for snow on Thursday and into Friday morning, winter storm watches are in force for the majority of North Texas.

The forecast is still being adjusted, but this is the current situation as of Tuesday morning.

This is what we anticipate.

Is it going to snow on Thursday?

On Thursday, snow is likely to fall, but it won’t be all of it.

It will begin with a wintry mix south of the DFW area.

We’ll switch to the heavier snow that will persist on Thursday night.

The snow is expected to last until Friday morning before it moves out.

How many inches of snow are expected on Thursday?

Where you reside will determine how much snow you receive.

As of right now, Thursday through Friday should bring 4 to 6 inches north and west of Dallas. Compared to our south, there will be more consistent snowfall there throughout the day.

We are currently anticipating 2 to 4 inches in the Metroplex.

In the latest model runs, the region where we anticipate a wintry mix grew northward.

Though not nearly as much as in the northern regions, there will still be snow in the pink areas above.

Note that these figures are subject to change!

If a layer of warm air persists longer than anticipated, that figure might be lower in the Metroplex. If the warm air leaves more quickly than we anticipate, the number can be larger.

Until the snow falls on Thursday, we will continue to adjust our forecast.

Winter Storm Watch

From late Wednesday evening through Friday afternoon, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for a large portion of North Texas.

When circumstances are ideal for a major winter storm event—heavy sleet, heavy snow, ice storm, heavy snow, blowing snow, or a combination of these—winter storm watches are issued.
