With arctic air on its approach, North Texas is expecting frigid temperatures.
There is a cold weather advisory in effect from Saturday evening until Sunday morning.
Saturday Forecast: Breezy day, polar air arrives at night
We know:
North Texas will have a windy and cold Saturday before the genuinely frigid air arrives overnight.
Most of our region will see highs in the 40s, with some regions to the south and east seeing highs close to 50.
Overnight, the primary polar air surge comes.
Don’t forget to bring your dogs in, cover your plants, and drip your faucets.
What is unknown to us:
That arctic air has a disturbance in front of it.
That implies that a few flakes might appear overnight.
They like to be to the north and west if we do see a flurry or two.
If anything did fall, it wouldn’t have much of an impact.
Sunday Morning: Freezing morning, chilling winds
We know:
As Sunday morning progresses, the temperature will continue to drop.
By the time you wake up, wind chills will be about 10 degrees, and morning lows will be in the 20s.
Overall, the weather will be dry and sunny, with single-digit dewpoints.
Only a few hours in the afternoon or evening will see temperatures above freezing.
Throughout the day, wind chills will be in the 20s.
Temperatures will rapidly drop after sunset as the winds subside.
MLK Day Forecast: Freezing temps for most of the day
We know:
We’ll be witnessing a disturbance descend through the Rockies on MLK Day.
Although we anticipate more clouds as a result, the temperature will remain extremely chilly and dry overall.
There will be wind chills in the 20s.
What is unknown to us:
Although Monday’s high temperatures are predicted to rise above freezing, it is currently uncertain how long they will stay above freezing.
It would only be a few hours at most.
Tuesday Forecast: Possible Snow
We know:
On Tuesday morning, a disturbance moves into south Texas after moving west of Texas.
On Tuesday, we should be able to recover above freezing temperatures as the sun returns late in the day.
What is unknown to us:
Although there is a chance that we might have very light snowflakes on Tuesday, we are not currently anticipating the biggest snowfall.
At the moment, that seems to be south of Tyler and south of our region toward Waco.
Although a decent dusting is not out of the question, it should be less than half an inch, and with the current freezing temperatures, road problems are not anticipated.
7-Day Forecast
Wednesday’s high temperatures are predicted to return to the 40s, and Thursday may bring additional precipitation.
