After allegedly stealing three firearms from the police department, a Dallas police sergeant is now facing charges.

“Upholding the rule of law is a holy duty for police officers. Rather, by allegedly pawning stolen firearms, this sergeant compromised both his department and his community,” said Northern District of Texas Acting U.S. Attorney Chad Meacham. “The U.S. Attorney s Office will not hesitate to pursue charges against law enforcement officers who fail to live up to their oaths.”

The backstory

In October 2022, the Dallas Police Department began looking into Fry.

Between August 2021 and July 2022, investigators discovered that the sergeant had taken at least three 9mm Sig Sauer handguns from a police department substation.

He was employed by the Southeast Patrol Division at the time.

Federal authorities then claim that Fry pawned the stolen firearms at a pawnshop.

After turning himself in to the Mesquite Police Department on three charges of handgun theft, a crime punishable by state jail, the officer was first taken into custody in April 2024.

Fry was taken into custody by the Royse City Police Department on a felony theft allegation in July 2024, a few months later.

According to department announcements, two Dallas Police Department officers were taken into custody over the weekend on separate intoxication-related offenses.

While the internal affairs department conducted an investigation, the sergeant was placed on administrative leave.

A police official told FOX 4 that Fry quit last August while being investigated.
