DALLAS—The Dallas Maverickson Friday provided a joyful Christmas celebration for homeless children.
The players settled down for a Christmas story with Santa Claus after assisting the Vogel Alcove children in decorating Christmas cookies.
Along with clothing and other basics, Target also supplied items from the children’s wish lists.
A charity group called Vogel Alcove assists homeless families. There are a lot of them in emergency situations.
“The families benefit from not having to worry about buying presents. What is happening at home is not a concern for the kids. They simply get to be in a secure setting,” Vogel Alcove director Valeria Parnia said.
Cynt Marshall, the CEO of Maverick, attended her last Cookies with Santa event prior to her retirement.
“The cookies have a delicious taste. It’s not a bittersweet experience. I will continue to play for the Mavericks here in Dallas. Everything is lovely. When Santa entered, the children’s faces brightened. She said, “It was a good day.”
According to Marshall, the Maverick’s new owners, Patrick Dumont and the Adelson Family, will continue the team’s tradition of charitable giving and community service.
She thinks things will only improve.
