Daryl Johnston, a former Dallas Cowboy, discusses the team’s coaching search and if his old teammate Deion Sanders might be a good fit.
DALLAS—The Dallas Cowboys announced that they had finished interviewing Leslie Frazier, the associate head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
We know:
Since announcing Mike McCarthy’s resignation, the organization has interviewed three candidates, including Frazier.
In the NFL, Frazier played cornerback and helped the Chicago Bears win a Super Bowl in 1985.
Before being hired as the head coach in Minnesota, he made stops at a number of teams on the defensive end of the ball.
After going 21-32-1 in Minnesota, Frazier was let go in 2013.
The interview satisfied the Rooney Rule of the NFL, which mandates that teams conduct in-person interviews with at least two external minority applicants for head coaching openings.

Frazier hasn’t held a head coaching position in a very long time.
Are the Cowboys a good fit for it?

We know:
On Saturday, January 18, Robert Saleh, the former head coach of the New York Jets, finished an interview with the Cowboys.
Following a lackluster season with the New York Jets, Saleh was let go.
He only had a 20-36 record in just over three seasons while he was in New York.
He has been recognized with constructing robust defenses in the past, despite the difficulties in New York.
Prior to joining the Jets, Saleh served as the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 2017 to 2020.
Dallas Cowboys interview Robert Saleh for head coaching job
On Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys declared that they had interviewed Robert Saleh for the position of head coach.
What is unknown to us:
Is Saleh interested in returning to a position where he is closely monitored?
Among the clubs in the league, the coach is one of the most attractive names.
There is no greater circus in the NFL than coaching the Dallas Cowboys, and some people think Saleh’s success may have been hindered by the circus surrounding the New York Jets.
Would Saleh choose a less well-known position or, as has been suggested, return to San Francisco, where he might be the league’s highest paid defensive coordinator?
