FRISCO, Texas:The Dallas Cowboys formally named former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus as their new defensive coordinator on Tuesday, one day after announcing the hiring of new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Dallas is accustomed to Eberflus. From 2011 until 2017, he worked as a defensive assistant for Jason Garrett’s staff under Rod Marinelli.
In 2018, he departed the Cowboys to join the Indianapolis Colts as their defensive coordinator. He remained there until 2022, when he was brought on as head coach of the Bears.
As head coach, Eberflus’ record was 14–32.
After losing to the Detroit Lions 23–20 on Thanksgiving Day, the Bears dismissed Eberfluson on November 29.
For five of his seven seasons, Eberflus’ defenses with the Bears and Colts finished in the top half of the rankings. In six of the seven seasons, they were among the top ten takeaways.
