What they’re saying:

In response to the results, Valentijn Bakker, editor of Nieuwe Casino, said, “It’s amazing how much of an impact specific TV series or films may have on the future of streaming services. Due to the release of movies like Squid Game 2 and the recently launched live sports section, which included a boxing battle between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, Netflix gained almost 19 million new members in the last months of 2024. The streaming behemoth has apparently decided to raise subscription fees in order to further invest in upgrades in response to this spike in users. But it’s likely that the growing cost of living, which forces platforms to raise their pricing more frequently in recent years, also had an impact on this decision.
