Boise State Adds Washington State Player of the Year Carter Kuchenbuch to 2025 Class

Boise State football has made a significant addition to its 2025 recruiting class by securing a commitment from Carter Kuchenbuch, the reigning Class 2B State Player of the Year in Washington. Kuchenbuch, who plays for Okanogan High, announced his verbal commitment to the Broncos on Tuesday. Last season, he accumulated 1,597 yards of offense and 37 touchdowns, leading his team to a state championship and earning all-state honors as both a quarterback and defensive end.

Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 230 pounds, Kuchenbuch is a three-star recruit. Although he excelled as a dual-threat quarterback in high school, he will be transitioning to a new position at Boise State: tight end. Despite never playing this position before, he impressed the coaches during a camp at Boise State in June, which led to his scholarship offer.

Kuchenbuch expressed some initial doubts about playing tight end but was reassured after performing well in drills at the camp. “The only question I had was if I could play tight end at the next level after never doing it,” he told Sports Illustrated. “I did the drills — the blocking and pass-catching — and honestly, it fits me better.”

Ranked as the No. 3 tight end in Washington by 247Sports, Kuchenbuch had several offers from other schools, including Washington State, Air Force, Army, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana, and UC Davis.

However, he chose Boise State because the coaches made him earn his offer through hard work. “They did not just show up at the front door and offer me or cold call me randomly,” Kuchenbuch said. “They told me: ‘There is a chance, but you have to work for it.’ And that felt more meaningful to me.”

According to MaxPreps, Kuchenbuch’s junior season stats are impressive: 571 passing yards and nine touchdowns through the air and 975 rushing yards with 27 touchdowns on the ground. Additionally, he caught a touchdown pass and recorded 50 tackles and two sacks as a defensive end.

Alexander Teubner Nominated for Good Works Team

In other news, Boise State safety Alexander Teubner has been nominated for the 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. The sixth-year senior was recognized for his outstanding community service and on-field performance.

Last season, Teubner led the team with 85 tackles and added five pass breakups, one interception, and one forced fumble. He was named Defensive MVP of the Mountain West championship game after a standout performance against UNLV.

Teubner’s community involvement includes volunteering at local schools, St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital, the Boise Rescue Mission, and the Idaho Foodbank. He served as a team captain in four games last season and earned a bachelor’s degree in finance in December.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team honors college football players for their commitment to community service. Nominees are also eligible for the Wuerffel Trophy, awarded to the FBS player who best combines community service with leadership and performance on and off the field.

Defenders Named to East-West Shrine Bowl Watch List

Boise State defenders Ahmed Hassanein and A’Marion McCoy have been named to the East-West Shrine Bowl watch list. Hassanein, a senior from Egypt, was recently named the Mountain West’s Preseason Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Last season, he led the Broncos with 12.5 sacks, ranking No. 2 in the conference, and earned first-team all-conference honors. McCoy, who led the Broncos with three interceptions last season, was also named preseason All-Mountain West and received honorable mention all-conference honors.

The 100th East-West Shrine Bowl will be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on January 30, 2025, and will be broadcast on NFL Network.
