Boise Fire Responds to Worries About Dive Rescue Boat's Speed and Safety on The River

The Boise Fire Department is actively addressing community concerns regarding the speed and safety of its Dive Rescue boat, which has recently become a topic of discussion among local river floaters. With river levels significantly lower than usual, the department has clarified the boat’s operational requirements to ensure both safety and effectiveness.

The Dive Rescue boat is specially designed to navigate shallow waters, with a minimum operational depth of just 4 inches. This design feature is crucial for conducting rescues and emergencies in varying water conditions.

However, due to the current low river flow, the boat must operate at higher speeds in certain areas to maintain its maneuverability. This necessity has raised concerns among floaters who are wary of the boat’s speed and its impact on their river experience.

Boise Fire officials have reassured the public that the increased speed is essential for the boat’s proper functioning. They emphasize that the boat’s ability to respond quickly in emergencies relies on this higher speed.

Furthermore, the department is emphasizing the importance of safety on the river and is urging floaters to be mindful of the boat’s presence. The Dive Rescue team is only active on the river when responding to emergencies or conducting necessary training exercises, not as a routine presence.

To ensure safety, floaters are advised to stay alert for hand signals and other instructions from the dive team members. These signals are used to direct floaters to move to one side of the river if needed, thereby facilitating the safe passage of the Dive Rescue boat. The department is committed to maintaining open communication with the public and appreciates the cooperation of river users in ensuring a safe environment for all.
