DALLAS—A new joint venture will establish Texas as the nation’s hub for artificial intelligence research and development.
We know:
A new company entitled Stargate was introduced on Tuesday by President Donald Trump at the White House, along with Masayoshi Son of SoftBank, Sam Altman of OpenAI and Larry Ellison of Oracle.
It s a partnership between the three tech companies, that have committed to investing as much as $500 billion to build more advanced artificial intelligence infrastructure.
What they’re saying:
Trump said it will be the “largest AI infrastructure project, by far, in history.”
He called it “a resounding declaration of confidence in America s potential” since he won.

“We need to take a close look at those two industries. They produce very few jobs compared to the incredible demands they place on our grid We want data centers, but it can t be the wild, wild west of data centers and crypto miners crashing our grid and turning the lights off.”
The other side:
While Trump has used similar announcements to show that his presidency is boosting the economy, there were already expectations of a massive buildout in data centers and electricity plants needed for the development of AI.
