Dylan Federico, a meteorologist with FOX 4, examines the chilly air that has moved into North Texas and the forecast for the remainder of the week.
DallasAs the winds lessen, we will barely return above freezing for a few afternoon hours, even with the sun. Until Monday night, when there may be some light snow or flurries, the weather is dry. There may be some buildup south of the metroplex.
Sunday Forecast: Freezing morning, chilling winds
We know:
On Sunday morning, the winds were at their highest at the coldest time of the day, with wind chills close to 10. As the light helps us stay above freezing from around 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. this afternoon, the winds will lessen. Chills will stay in the 20s despite waning winds.
We might experience a few degrees of lower temperatures on Monday morning, with lows in the teens to close to 20 degrees, as the winds subside and high pressure approaches tonight. Maintain leaky faucets!
MLK Day Forecast: Freezing temps for most of the day
We know:
Monday, MLK Day, will bring partly sunny skies, milder winds, and afternoon temperatures above freezing once more. Later in the day, as a disturbance moves over the Rockies and contributes to the formation of a storm in the Gulf, clouds will be increasing.
Due to the extremely low temperatures and low moisture content, Monday night’s air will be too dry for more than a little snow or flurries.
What is unknown to us:
It should be easy to blow away anything that falls since it should be fluffy. It would be far south from Waco to the Palestine boundary if we did observe any accumulation (1″).
Tuesday Forecast: Possible Snow
We know:
The clouds will shift to sunshine and any flakes we see will leave first thing on Tuesday morning. One more day will see extremely low temperatures in the mid-30s.
What is unknown to us:
Although there is a chance that we might have very light snowflakes on Tuesday, we are not currently anticipating the biggest snowfall. At the moment, that seems to be south of Tyler and south of our region toward Waco.
Although a decent dusting is not out of the question, it should be less than half an inch, and with the current freezing temperatures, road problems are not anticipated.
7-Day Forecast
We know:
As winds shift to the south and get stronger, we begin a warming trend by the middle of the week. After one final cold start, Wednesday will see temperatures return to the 40s or perhaps even near 50.
We have eliminated the possibility of precipitation from the forecast, but a weak system will move through at night and leave Thursday with some clouds. It appears like the air is excessively dry.
The dry air will persist through Friday, and by the afternoon, south winds will return, bringing the temperature back to “normal” in the mid-50s. On Saturday, it will rise as the temperature reaches 60 degrees.
