Fort Worth MLK Day Parade Postponed

For the second consecutive year, a sharp decline in temperature is forcing chair Krista Daniels to postpone the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in Greater Fort Worth.

“When the weather drops to certain temperatures, they do not want to put the children at risk,” she said.

This weekend, an arctic front will blow through, bringing lows into the 20s, making Monday the coldest holiday.

The 40th annual event has now been moved to President’s Day on February 17.

Daniels remarked, “The city officials are helping out,” “Be calm, they said. Everything will be OK. “All right,” I said. I have faith in you all.

Fort Worth Pretreating Roads

According to Val Lopez of the TxDOT Fort Worth District, pretreating was completed on Friday.

“We started pretreating our system Wednesday,” he stated.

Although flurries are expected early next week, North Texas is not anticipating significant precipitation during this artic front.

To drop brine, TxDOT teams hit the state highways.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we did pretreat in anticipation for chilly weather,” Lopez explained. “We are not sure about the precipitation.”

Roads near hospitals and emergency areas were treated with brines on Friday, according to Lane Zarate of the Fort Worth Public Works Department.

“We usually stockpile around 800 tons of salt and 4,000 tons of sand,” he stated.

The sand trucks will then operate their routes with city workers on 12-hour shifts from Monday night into Tuesday morning.
