Dallas weather: Freezing temperatures, snow possible MLK weekend

Bring out those coats again! This weekend is turning cold once more. Evan Andrews, a meteorologist, has provided your forecast.

North Texas:The last day of nice weather is today, as tomorrow will see a sharp decrease in temperature, with lows in the 20s. MLK weekend is predicted to see a major change in the weather, with the frigid temperatures persisting throughout the first part of next week.

Friday Forecast

We know:

Overcast sky and extremely dry, cold temperatures are to be expected this morning. Around noon, the Metroplex may get isolated, dispersed showers.

While the remainder of the Metroplex will remain in the 60s, Fort Worth may see low 70s temperatures this afternoon as sunshine breaks through. The coolest parts of DFW will be on the east.

Tonight, a cold front starts to sweep in.

What is unknown to us:

It’s still unknown when and where isolated rains will occur.

MLK Weekend Weather

We know:

On Saturday morning, temperatures will be in the mid-40s with wind chills that are almost freezing. Even though there will be sunshine, the highs will still be cold.

On Saturday night, cloud cover and the possibility of flurries are brought in by Arctic air. The low will be in the 20s.

With the lingering arctic air, Sunday will be brisk and frigid. We won’t see temperatures much above freezing during the day if it’s sunny.

What you are able to do:

Cover plants, drip faucets, and take pet safety measures.

What is unknown to us:

It’s uncertain when flurries will occur and how likely they are.

MLK Day Forecast

We know:

With lows close to 20, Monday will be the coldest day of the weekend.

Increasing cloud cover will prevent temperatures from climbing above freezing during the day.

Will it snow?

Light, fluffy snow or flakes could fall late Monday or early Tuesday due to a storm that formed in the Gulf on Sunday night. There may be more snow accumulation in Waco and other areas south of DFW.

7-Day Forecast

Tuesday By the afternoon, the frigid air will start to move away as the skies clear.

Temperatures are predicted to gradually warm up starting on Wednesday and to rise modestly during the remainder of the week.
