Attending a hearing before the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee is the former NFL player who oversaw the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during Trump’s first term.
The hearing will start at 9 a.m. central time.
Scott Turner, the nominee for secretary of housing and urban development, is questioned by Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) over corporate property purchases in Texas and other US states.
Who is Scott Turner?
The backstory
Turner is a former member of the Texas House, a pastor, and a professional mentor.
He went to Richardson’s Pearce High School while growing up in the Dallas area.
After playing football for the University of Illinois, Turner played for the Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers, and Washington Redskins in the NFL for a number of years.
He interned with then-Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif, during the off-season. Turner was employed by the congressman full-time after retiring in 2004. Turner made an unsuccessful Republican run in the 50th Congressional District of California in 2006.
Turner ran to represent the newly established 33rd District in the Texas House when his football career ended.
He was a member of the Texas House from 2013 to 2017 for two terms. All of Rockwall County and a portion of Collin County are included in District 33.

President Trump named him director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council in 2019.
Trump nominated Turner to be the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development following his election victory in 2024.
Turner is listed as an associate pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
