FRISCO, Texas:After his contract expires on Tuesday, head coach Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys will not be returning.
On Monday, Jerry Jones affirmed that McCarthy and the team will be going in separate directions.
Mike Doocy Reacts to Cowboys-McCarthy Split
Mike McCarthy, the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, is leaving the team. It was said that the two were unable to agree on the parameters of a new contract. On Tuesday, McCarthy’s current five-year contract comes to an end.
Mike Doocy of FOX 4 said that he initially believed McCarthy would be fired at the end of the season but started to have second thoughts in the last few weeks as Jones kept complimenting his now-former head coach.
Late in the season, McCarthy also changed the way he spoke by mentioning his winning past.

Jerry Jones, the general manager and owner of the Dallas Cowboys, issued a statement on Monday afternoon regarding the team’s decision to fire head coach Mike McCarthy.
Don Yee, the former Cowboys coach’s new agent, represents some of the league’s most renowned head coaches, such as Jim Harbaugh and Sean Payton.
Doocy claims that in the end, he thinks Jerry Jones is achieving his goals by leaving.
“I believe Jerry respects Mike McCarthy as a coach, therefore I don’t think he intended to fire McCarthy outright. I believe he likes him personally. All things considered, I believe they complement one other quite nicely,” Doocy added. “I believe Jerry realized that bringing Mike McCarthy back would not be a sell. That lacked the glitz he required to maintain interest.
Despite McCarthy’s three 12-win seasons, the Dallas Cowboys fan base seems to support the decision overall.
“To put it bluntly, he lost the playoffs. His postseason record of 1-3 wasn’t good enough. McCarthy, in my opinion, atones for the transgressions of his predecessors from the preceding 25 years, who also struggled mightily in the postseason, Doocy stated.
After Tom Landy and Jason Garrett, McCarthy is the third-winning head coach in Cowboys history when he departs Dallas.
What’s Next For Mike McCarthy?
The Chicago Bears asked the Cowboys to let McCarthy interview for the head coaching position, but the Cowboys turned them down earlier this month.
The Bears would probably still like to talk about that.
Another possibility is the Saints, where McCarthy was once an offensive coordinator.
