KELLER, TexasThis week, a proposal to divide the Keller Independent School District is being discussed.

Charles Randklev, the president of the Keller ISD school board, is characterizing the division as a “reshaping” of the district.

According to him, Keller ISD is facing previously unheard-of difficulties, just as other districts in the state. Additionally, while some nearby districts are reducing their programming or eliminating campuses, Keller ISD will think about “reshaping the district,” according to Rendklev.

Keller ISD to split into 2 districts?

What is unknown to us:

The president of the school board stated that the change was being considered because of financial constraints.

Regarding the division of the district, Rendklev has not yet confirmed reports or issued any information.

There hasn’t been a public meeting on the drastic adjustment, though. Some school board trustees and parents claim they have been kept in the dark.

In Tarrant County, Keller ISD is the fourth-largest school district.

What they’re saying:

The majority of the students in Keller ISD attend District 4, which is represented by Fort Worth City Councilmember Charlie Lauersdorf. He claimed that until someone in his district alerted him to the possible scheme, he was unaware of it.

“As far as I know, I ve never seen it done, and others obviously haven t either,” he stated. “So that s what lending to a lot of fear, I believe.”

Two trustees have so far expressed their disapproval of the idea, claiming it caught them off guard and surprised them.

“Decisions of this size necessitate serious thought, community involvement, and vigorous debate. Property values, school funding, district resources, and the educational opportunities for present and future kids will all be negatively impacted for some time by the district’s detachment,” stated Trustee Joni Shaw Smith.

Chelsea Kelly, a trustee, stated that she is “not okay with the way this has been rolled out or that our community has had no input on this idea.”

Just a few months into the school year, Keller ISD informs FOX 4 that the lunch debt has already reached $37,000.

Since a portion of Keller ISD is located in Fort Worth, Mayor Mattie Parker of Fort Worth also stated that she opposes the move.

Chris Coker, a trustee, stated that although the concept is startling, he wouldn’t be carrying out his elected duties if he didn’t consider every alternative for Keller ISD.

Anthony Nguyen and other parents aren’t making decisions until all the facts are clear.

“Not until we have all the facts. “Until then, no,” he stated. “Right now, everything’s all rumors.”

Lauersdorf is confident that before a decision is made, the board will hear from parents, teachers, and staff.

“They desire to be heard. That has been repeatedly stated,” he stated. As the community reiterates, “We want our voices heard,” it is revealing its face once more. We wish to participate in the process. Don’t exclude us.

People will have to wait for answers until then, though.

“I think once the school board has information that they feel they can present and ease some of those fears, I think they will,” Lauersdorf said.

Next steps:

According to Rendklev, the conversation will take place during an executive session on Thursday. The public is not permitted to attend the meetings.

According to Rendklev, if the board chooses to proceed with the proposal, it will provide the public with a plan “in an open and transparent manner.”

The subject will also be considered by the Tarrant County Commissioner’s Court on Tuesday morning.
