The backstory

The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon around one block from Casa View Elementary and east of White Rock Lake, close to Centerville and Shiloh roads.

Around 3:20 p.m., police reported receiving many 911 calls regarding a guy brandishing his gun at onlookers and passing vehicles.

According to the police, they verbally ordered the man to drop his guns multiple times when they arrived, but he refused to comply. According to the police, he pointed his gun at them, and they shot him.

Police in Far East Dallas said a man was shot after pointing his gun at responding officers while he was waving it at bystanders nearby.

He was taken in critical condition to the hospital.

“The officers immediately provided first aid on the suspect until Dallas Fire Rescue arrived,” stated Chief Igo.

Nobody else was harmed.

What is unknown to us:

The suspect’s name and a status update have not yet been made public by the police.

The reason he was carrying a gun in the middle of the road is unknown.

Two firearms, including a long rifle, were seen on the road near the shooting site by SKY 4. Police haven’t stated clearly, though, that they are the suspect’s.
