DallasTo commemorate former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29 at the age of 100, a national day of celebration has been set for Thursday, January 9.
We know:
On January 9, regular mail delivery, retail services, and office operations will be suspended by the Postal Service.
To make sure the company’s package delivery operations are not negatively impacted, there will be limited package delivery service on that day.
With the exception of those required for limited package delivery operations, all USPS facilities will be closed for the national day of remembrance.
On Friday, January 10, regular mail service will be restored.
In addition, USPS facilities must honor Carter by flying the U.S. flag at half-staff until sunset on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

For 30 days following his passing, American flags at the White House, public buildings, military installations, naval vessels, and American embassies abroad are required to fly at half-staff in remembrance of Carter.

On January 9, he will be buried in Plains next to his cherished wife, Rosalynn Carter. Prior to that, his remains were taken to The Carter Center, where the public can pay their respects and Carter will rest in peace.
He will be taken to Washington, D.C., on January 7, when he will lie in state and be available for public remembrance. He will be returned to Plains right after following a state funeral on January 9 and buried in a private ceremony.
