DALLAS—Children’s Health reports that North Texas is seeing an increase in COVID, RSV, and flu cases.

Based on the numbers:According to Children’s Medical Center Plano’s head of infection prevention and control, Dr. Carla Garcia Carreno, 279 flu cases were reported system-wide last week. Compared to the prior week, that represents a 93% increase.

Cases of COVID-19 and RSV are also increasing.

Physicians anticipate that the figures will worsen in January and February compared to what we have already witnessed.

Why It Matters: RSV and other respiratory infections can be harmful to infants, but adults can recover from them on their own.

Babies who have respiratory illnesses may also avoid milk, which dehydrates them.

According to medical professionals, you should watch for babies that have thick saliva, cry without tears, or have fewer wet diapers.

What You Can Do Vaccinations are still available.

Everybody should get the COVID and flu shots, according to doctors.

Pregnant women, those over 60, and infants and toddlers can receive the RSV vaccine or antibody therapy.

What They’re Saying:When to dial 911, according to Dr. Carla Garcia Carreno:

“If the babies start having difficulty, breathing, breathing fast, without fever, having retractions, having belly bleeding or belly breathing or head bobbing, or if they turn, either blue or purple, it’s really important that you call 911.”

When to see a doctor, according to Dr. Charles Dunlap of the Plano office of Pediatric Associates of Dallas:

“I believe that making that choice is simpler when discussing yourself as an adult. We advise our families, however, that if you’re worried about your child being ill at all, and how ill they are, and you’re not sure what to do, that’s a completely different kind of anxiety. Just give us a call, please. We have triage nurses on staff who can offer you advice.
