This is Texas’ most popular specialty license plate for 2024

Over the course of the last 12 months, My Plates has sold over 90,000 specialty plates in 272 different designs.

Texas:The staff at My Plates has selected the best-selling selections for 2024, which saw over 90,000 specialty plates sold throughout Texas.

The Classic Black design was selected by over 14,000 Texans. Sales of over $3.7 million were made. It made its debut in 2016 and has remained at the top ever since.

The Classic Black Silver, which brought in almost $2.9 million this year, came in second.

Texas A&M won the highest-selling college plate, and the Dallas Cowboys won the top sports plate.

In 2024, three new categories were added.


  • Top Embossed Plate: Recognizing the best-selling raised-letter design.

  • Top Crossover Plate: Highlighting a state plate that crossed over to My Plates program with a redesign

  • Top New Release Plate: Celebrating the breakout rookie plate of the year.

The 2024 category winners are:


  • No.1 Charity Plate: Texas DPS Troopers Foundation

  • No.1 Sports Plate: Dallas Cowboys

  • No.1 Embossed Plate: Black & Gold Embossed

  • No.1 College Plate: Texas A&M University

  • No.1 New Release: Brushed Metal Grill

  • No.1 Crossover Plate: Lone Star Black Silver (State of the Arts)

  • No.1 Texas Plate: Classic Black

272 designs were selected out of the 90,000 plates that were sold in 2024. Over 15% of the sales were of the traditional black design.

“The enduring popularity of Classic Black stems from its timeless appeal, reminiscent of Texas license plates from the mid-20th century when a full black background was standard on Texas vehicles,” Steve Farrar, president and CEO of My Plates, remarked.
